Hold on, Auto Future

Hold On, Auto Futur

Year: 2013
Size: 250cm x 450cm x 300cm
Material: stainless steal, solvent printed bath towels with data from the future.

This sculpture is inspired by a staircase handrail without stairs to step on.
In and around the handrail we find towels hanging and laying around, suggesting a leftover of physical activity. With a closer look we notice they present dates from the future explaning in a cryptic description an event from 100 to several 1000th years away from now. The texts are results of random web based searches unveiling an existing auto generated framework of future events and reflect on the shifting capability of predicting the future in our current digital society. The interaction between an organisational instrument in public space that runs out of our physical reachability and the cryptic computer lingual descriptions on towels represent the different nature between the mechanism of computerized planning and the physical freedom and limitations of mankind.

Stick and Plant

Year: 2003
Material: 2 channel video installation, wood, plants, rooftop, clothing hangers, clothing, bench,
Sizes: 2,5 x 3 x 14 meter

Stick and Plant Is a 2 channel video installation that reassembles a Rehabilitation Centre similar to a sauna. We see patients change clothing into camouflage outfits in order to hide in the artificial jungle space that is physically behind the wooden installation wall. Besides this other unusual treatments are happening in and outside of the video projections that are integrated in the installation.
